Sports/Gym gear is fine as is regular clothing. All clients will need to partially undress before treatment. Your therapist will use towels to cover areas not being massaged, and will ensure your privacy, comfort and dignity is maintained at all times.
During a sports massage therapy session, you can expect to be asked about your medical history, current physical activity, and any areas of concern. For all first appointments, a posture assessment will be done. This involves checking for any imbalances as well as testing range of motion. Clients are given a description of the massage treatment and explanation of its aims and can ask me any questions. They will be asked to sign a consent form before treatment can begin. The massage itself will be carried out on a massage table with the client either lying face up or down depending on the area to be treated. Assisted stretching may also be used together with massage as part of the treatment.
Muscles and joints may feel a little tender after a Sports Massage because many of the techniques involve the use of firm pressure. This is normal and any soreness will disappear within a day or two. It’s always advised to drink plenty of water after a massage to help flush out the body’s toxins/waste products which have been brought into circulation through massage. Muscle tightness and tension will ease with improvements in range of motion and flexibility. Swedish/relaxation massage won’t usually result in any soreness being felt afterwards because the massage techniques involved are much more gentle.
Clients are almost always adults. Anyone under the age of 18 wanting a Sports/Remedial massage has to be accompanied by their Parent/Guardian who must give their written consent to treatment. The Parent/Guardian must be present at all times during the actual session too.
There are certain circumstances where a Sports Massage isn’t advisable – for e.g acute injuries like recent muscle tears/ruptures or open/infected wounds. It’s important for clients to have an initial brief chat by telephone before booking so both they and the therapist are clear that massage treatment can be carried out.
24 hours notice must be given for cancellations or to change a booking otherwise a 50% charge of the full cost of the session will be applied.
Missed appointments without any notice being given will incur a charge of 100% of the treatment cost.
Please arrive 5 minutes before your appointment time to ensure your treatment session can start promptly. Late arrival may result in the treatment time being reduced if there is another client appointment immediately afterwards.
